Asked Question

  • How should I store my apple(s) after purchase?

To preserve freshness, store your apples in a cool environment (46-59°F / 8-15°C). For optimal results, refrigerate after purchase.

  • What’s the shelf life?

The shelf life is as follows, with the Best Before date printed on the packaging. For optimal freshness, store in a cool environment:

Large Gourmet Apples: 35 days from the date of production

Old Fashioned Caramel Apples: 28 days from the date of production

Specialty (character) Apples: 28 days from the date of production

Gourmet Caramel Sauce: 365 days from the date of production

For longer-lasting delight, keep our treats in a cool, recommended environment.

  • Where can I find your apples?

Our apples are stocked in numerous major grocery stores. If you're looking for the closest retailer, kindly provide us with your location, and we'll guide you to the nearest retail partner.

  • Why is the chocolate on my apples cracked?

Absolutely normal! The cracking happens due to the natural expansion and contraction of chocolate on our delectable caramel apples.

  • Are your apples available year-round?

While our apples are available throughout the year, they are offered seasonally, primarily aligning with major holidays for a delightful touch to your celebrations.

  • The stick and surrounding core of my apple are dark. Is this normal?

Yes, this is normal.  When making caramel apples, the apples are poked with a wooden stick through the core.  This triggers an enzyme present in the apple (known as polyphenol oxidase [PPO]) to oxidize in the apple’s core.  This naturally reacts with the amino-acids of the apples to produce fruit-browning.

When serving your apple, ensure your cuts leave a 1-inch square around the stick. In doing so, the serving pieces will avoid visibility of natural poke darkening, seeds and stem in the core.  Just like any other raw apple, it is not advisable to eat the core or apple seeds.

When the apple is cut as recommended, your servings should not show extended brown coloration.  If the proper serving cuts show browning and softness, this may be the result of excessive oxygen in the apple’s affected area.  At that point, it is recommended to remove the affected area.  If appearance, flavor, and crunch of the apple are not desirable, please reach out to us using the ‘Contact’ form.

Moyer’s applies SQF best practices to reduce natural fruit-browning and assure our product is safe.  All of our wooden sticks are thoroughly sanitized, and all of our apples are sorted in order to select the best product for our customers.

  • Why is my apple green / red – not so sweet / too sweet?

Our commitment to you is safe, fresh, and high-quality apples.  Our selection process, procuring, and processing is careful, inspected, approved, and planned to provide you a high-quality fresh apple that you will enjoy.  Apple types may vary throughout our production seasons from green to red, and from sweet to tart…but it will always be a crunchy, juicy treat.

  • How should I serve your apples?

For optimal enjoyment, allow the apple to reach room temperature before indulging. Slice around the core (not directly at the stick) for perfectly shareable pieces. Check out the tags on our Gourmet Apples (pictured below) for detailed visuals on how to slice and savor.
